ROVs find Hydrothermal Vents in the Red Sea

In 2022 & 2023, KAUST scientists used ROVs to confirm data collected since 2011 proving that hydrothermal vents exist in the Red Sea!

The research used multiple research vessels and deep-ocean research equipment thanks to a collaboration with scientists at GEOMAR Helmholtz and staff from KAUST and HCMR (the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research).

ROVs make underwater inspections 200X faster

ROVs can quickly deploy data sensors to subsea locations for site inspections that make human divers’ work safer and more efficient. These benefits mean that ROVs are a relatively inexpensive tool for inspections in deep sea and inhospitable environments.

ROVs coordinating AUVs to play key role in ocean floor mapping

Exail, RTsys and ABYSSA have created a new partnership to use schools of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) for ocean floor mapping.

Part of ongoing development involves developing a process by which a 3,000m depth-rated underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle will coordinate multiple AUVs to increase the surface of the exploration area.
